ABSTRACT
The United States is the only major country in the world that compels manufacturers to equip all new passenger vehicles with airbags. Airbag enthusiasts predicted that the airbag would be the equivalent of a vaccine for crash-related trauma. Numerous professionals (including the author of this article) devoted substantial fractions of their careers to making the case for mandatory airbags.
