ABSTRACT

During the 1950s and 1960s it was not unusual to hear people talk about occupational illness and accidents as acceptable as an occupational hazard. Times have changed and it is now totally unacceptable to put workers into work environments that are dangerous or, at least, to provide appropriate protection. However, until recently stress has been considered by many to be macho and part of the job, and yet now we are all aware that it has the potential to cause serious illness and even death.
