ABSTRACT

Technology is only part of the story: radio programme making requires human resources. The majority of the budget allocated to fund BBC radio is spent on staffing. The personnel involved in the making of programmes were collectively known as ‘production effort’ but are now more often referred to as teams or crews. It is possible for one person to produce a complete programme, while others are made by small or large teams. The staffing that makes up these teams varies depending on the content and structure of individual programmes, if they are being produced by an independent production company and the size and nature of the station that broadcasts the programme.
