ABSTRACT

Students on a wide variety of courses across the UK undertake placements as part of their learning and the benefits of doing so are considerable. In professional training courses such as social work, nursing, medicine and teaching, placements are a mandatory component of courses and are inextricably linked to successful completion and the subsequent award of ‘professional status’. For disabled students, adjustments may need to be made so that they can demonstrate their competence and gain maximum benefit from the placement opportunity.
