The elevation above sea level can also make exceptional demands on soccer players. Teams may be obliged to play friendly or international matches at moderate to high altitudes. Temporary training camps for top teams may be based at altitude resorts and this environment constitutes a particular novel challenge to those dwelling at sea-level. South American teams playing in Bolivia, and less so in parts of Mexico, can be hampered by the altitude at which the game is played.
