ABSTRACT

His name is Thomas. He is seventeen. He is the middle of the three boys. From birth, the heaviest of all three. Emergency caesarean, as the other two were. No health issues initially . . . bouncing baby boy, great appetite, there was nothing to say there was anything wrong. Then when he was seven months old I was very concerned because he wasn’t making any sounds. I actually asked the health visitor if she could do the hearing test, but it was before he was seven months old. And she said ‘Well do you want a full scale conversation with him?’ I said ‘No but I’m getting to the stage I’m thinking of putting a bell round his neck to know where he is,’ because he would crawl everywhere and not make a sound. She referred him to an audiologist and he failed his hearing test.
