ABSTRACT

Graffiti scrawled on post-boxes and bridges, broken glass on sidewalks, slashed seats on trains, overturned litter bins in public parks – cities bear these urban scars from Sydney to San Francisco, from Manchester to Montevideo. Together with fighting among football fans, assaults on individuals, hostile confrontations with police, and car races in suburban streets, they constitute some of the forms of antisocial behaviour that are perpetrated by young people. How antisocial behaviour is expressed and instigated in groups, mass crowds, and delinquent networks is the subject of this chapter.
