ABSTRACT

Location: Two and one-half miles west of the modern-day village of Selçuk and thirty-five miles south of the city of İzmir, on the northern slopes of Mount Coressus (Bülbüldağ) and Mount Pion (Panaytrdağ), immediately south of the Caÿster River, in the province of İzmir. The ancient city commanded a strategic location midway between the Mediterranean and the Dardanelles, slightly northeast of the Greek island of Samos.
