ABSTRACT

Location: Gallipoli (Gelibolu in Turkish), in the province of Çanakkale, is the chief town on the narrow Gallipoli Peninsula at the northeastern extremity of the Dardanelles at the western entrance of the Sea of Marmara, some 126 miles west-southwest of Istanbul. The narrow strait, 38 miles long and three-quarters of a mile to 4 miles wide, traditionally marks the separation between Europe and Asia.
