ABSTRACT

This chapter explores current learning cultures drawing on research but, equally importantly, on considerable experience over forty years of facilitating learning – including teaching in schools, training teachers in higher education, working in people development with organizations and facilitating personal growth groups for helping professionals and the general public. It also presents a theory of emotions that underpins the strategies and behaviours that facilitate learning and summarizes strategies for changing to cultures that foster lifelong learners. In addition, existing cultures that are difficult to change are listed.
