Introduction

We write at a time when ‘sex’ (understood not simply as an empirical reality, but as a complex construct of multiple discursive framings and political struggles) seems to be everywhere around us – in popular culture, media, the Internet, and the rise and resurgence of religion, but also in the tragic march to war and the most remarkable (and often horrifying) actions of governments and states.
