ABSTRACT
Despite the fact that Indonesia and the Philippines are island-states and that the Southeast Asian region contributes approximately 15 per cent of world container traffic (Containerisation International 1998), Singapore is the only country in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations to operate a shipping liner on an international scale.
