ABSTRACT

As shown in Chapter 7, the introduction of VLS-PV systems in desert areas seems to be attractive from an economic point of view when the module price drops to less than 2 USD/W, even though existing PV system technology is adopted. But we must pay attention not only to the economic aspect but also to the energy and environmental aspects, since PV systems consume a lot of energy at their production stage and therefore emit carbon dioxide (CO2) indirectly, as a result.
