ABSTRACT

The experience of bereavement or terminal illness concentrates the mind on what is really important. The need to feel that work is of value to society as well as a means of making money often comes to the fore in answer to the question: why bother? Of course, even the most inspiring work can be reduced to drudgery by the touch of death. The sense that the organisation cares about its people, customers and staff, and not only about money, however that may be measured, is important at such a time.
