ABSTRACT
In the previous chapters we have told of the fortress which the Portuguese noble, Phelipe de Brito of Nicote, built at his own cost, at the entrance to the port of Siriam, which is the chief port of the kingdom of Pegu. This kingdom, which was now so wasted and deserted that it contained little but jungles and wild beasts, had been conquered by the King of Aracao, who had given it to Phelipe de Brito as a recompense for his many and great services.
