ABSTRACT
This victory, gained at so little cost over two such powerful kings, added greatly to the reputation of the Portuguese amongst the surrounding peoples, to whom it seemed that the little fortress of Serião, under its captain, Philippe de Brito, was able to hold its own against the forces of any king whatsoever. But Philippe de Brito, whose energy and determination seemed to triumph over everything, attempted to build beyond the strength of his foundations.
