ABSTRACT

HOW TO USE THE SESSION PLANS

Most of the circle meeting plans that follow contain the full five stages as described previously. Some nursery children may find this too tiring and you may decide to cut out some of the stages. It is vital that each meeting has a clear beginning, a focused middle and a positive, upbeat closure but, so long as you keep to that basic structure, you can modify each plan to meet the needs of your particular group of children. There are also five ‘starter’ sessions included here as examples of three-stage circle meetings. You know your children well and will be able to decide what is best for them at their current stage of development. Remember to remind the children about the ground rules and the five learning skills before you begin each session and use the lesson plans creatively by adapting them and mixing and matching as you please. You will soon become skilled at planning your meetings to suit the particular needs of your group/class of children and there are activities in the other sections of the book that can be incorporated into your circle meetings as appropriate.
