ABSTRACT
Open-notes exams are similar to open-book exams, described in the previous section,, except that students are allowed to bring into the examination room not books, but any notes that they have prepared for the purpose. In other words, we are talking about a situation of ‘legitimised crib-notes’! Your first thought may be that this is all very strange, but in fact such exams can work surprisingly well. Many of the advantages of and suggestions for open-book exams continue to apply, but the additional advantages and disadvantages arise as summarised in Table 4.
