ABSTRACT

The point of departure of this chapter is two observations, one rather commonplace, and the other somewhat controversial. The first and commonplace observation is that many of us tend to admire the winners in elitist sport competitions. The second, and more controversial, is that there is something not quite right about this admiration. After having briefly indicated why I hold the latter opinion, I will discuss what kind of impact genetic engineering (enhancement) in sport would have on our admiration for the winners. I will argue that it would mean that what is problematic about our admiration would disappear. Hence, genetic engineering (enhancement) within sport is something we ought to welcome.
