ABSTRACT
Biodiversity normally refers to the composition or mix of genes, species or ecosystems. Genetic diversity is a measure of the size and composition of the gene pool. Species diversity is a measure of the number of and differences between taxonomically distinct species. Intraspecific diversity is a measure of the variation within a taxonomically distinct species, e.g. varieties of rice. Ecosystem diversity is a measure of the differences between distinct ecosystems.
