ABSTRACT

The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) curriculum model, as represented in the hexagon (see Preface, Figure 1), has at its core three additional components: the Theory of Knowledge (TOK) course, the extended essay and the Creativity, Action, Service (CAS) requirement. The importance attached to these elements by the founding fathers in the 1960s is just as great today in fulfilling the stated objective of the IBDP: that alongside developing academic potential, it should also offer opportunities for young people to become wellrounded, imaginative and compassionate individuals.
