ABSTRACT

This chapter addresses the issues surrounding teaching children with special needs in mainstream education. It offers an insight into the range of special needs-both lowability and gifted children-and also the variety of teaching strategies used to assist them in their learning. Practical assistance on planning and preparing a maths lesson is suggested and information is offered on the process of assessing children with SEN. The impact of ICT in teaching children with learning needs is also reviewed in the light of the requirements for ‘inclusion’.
