ABSTRACT

How were you taught maths in primary school? Did you learn number sequences by songs or rhymes such as Ten Green Bottles? Did you play with scales and counters or pretend you were working in a shop? What changes occurred when you entered the postprimary maths classroom? Did your teacher relate maths to other subjects such as science or geography? Or were you prepared for ‘the exams’? Was more time spent using maths or practising mathematical skills?
