ABSTRACT

This chapter argues the case for exploiting information technology (IT) by weaving it into traditional teaching and learning strategies instead of employing a ‘big bang’ change in which all learning takes place online. It adopts the familiar lecture paradigm as the means of conveying knowledge and advises on how the unique features of computers may be harnessed to create teaching material that is superior to paper-based alternatives. Attention is given to designing material that goes some way to helping disabled students learn as effectively as their able-bodied peers.
