ABSTRACT

To provide content to discussions of these main issues within group work, a brief overview of the approach adopted within the University of Durham is now given.

Within Durham, the groupwork exercise is set within a core software engineering (SE) module at Level 2. This is a double module worth 40 credits where students take 120 credits each year. This module is compulsory for all students studying for single honours programmes within the department and optional for combined honours students. The teaching content includes topics such as project management, requirements engineering, human-computer interaction, design, software quality assurance and testing, and software life cycles. Taught material and the groupwork project are assessed parts of the module. Within the groupwork a number of deliverables are assessed, including a requirements specification, design and implementation. In addition, the communication skills of the students are examined by means of presentations and posters.
