ABSTRACT
While concern has been expressed about how the statements were developed in some disciplines, and the variability between disciplines in the product, they are accepted as key curriculum planning documents. From 2003, a QAA advisory board will oversee reviews of benchmark statements when the subject community deems these necessary. Benchmark statements may also be produced for new subject areas; these might include, for example, criminology, early years’ studies and gender studies.
