In the past 25 years, there has been a very strong resurgence of various spiritualistic movements in the west. According to Bertrand this is because:
Industrialized civilization has failed to fulfill a fundamental human need to understand our presence on Earth… People have always wondered: ‘Does life have a meaning?’ Hence the proliferation of spiritualistic movements that answer positively: ‘Yes, there is another world, an unnameable world with a thousand names that we must experience.’ The goal of spiritualistic education is to familiarize the individual with this spiritual reality-also called mystical or metaphysical.
