ABSTRACT

Minerals and vitamins are not directly related to the body’s energy production but they are certainly indirectly related since several enzymes require vitamins or minerals as coenzymes and cofactors. Athletes need more energetic nutrients than sedentary people, they also need different amounts of vitamins and minerals. Because the values stated as Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) were established as an average, athletes should look to them as a guide, although knowing that there is a need for the intake of minerals and vitamins to increase with physical training.
