ABSTRACT

Guidance and communication are undoubtedly the most important part of leadership in sports and in particular the leadership of the coach in amateur soccer teams. When we refer to leadership, we mean: 1) the behaviour of a leader with the purpose of directing and synchronising the energies of a team (Fiedler, 1967); 2) the two-way oral communication that the people involved have among themselves behaviour-wise (Patsiaouras, 1999); 3) a behaviour process which influences directly people and teams to set goals and to strive for their success (Barron et. al 1977); 4) the practice of power and decision-making (Phillips, 1966; Chelladurai and Arnott, 1985).
