ABSTRACT
Most skills required for success in soccer can be developed and learned by the player through practice, but the one technical action that could determine the outcome of a soccer match can often not be trained. These actions are performed by players who come up with a superb solution to the problem at hand: i.e. score a goal! It is therefore rarely possible to investigate these solutions during the game, because the technical skill used is a unique solution to a unique problem. Sometimes this can be done. The decisive skill of one of the semi-finals in the 2002 World Cup in the Brazil vs. Turkey match is such a solution. Here the Brazilian international Ronaldo secured Brazil’s semi-final victory over Turkey with a toe kick.
