ABSTRACT

In WC2002 and CM2000-2002 a majority of penalty kicks were taken with the right foot (77%—58/75 against 23%—17/75 of left footed kicks). In contrast to McMorris and Colenso (1996), who indicated that goalkeeper anticipation to right footed kicks was significantly more accurate, in our data goalkeepers anticipated ball direction in 52% (30/58) of right footed shots, no different from the 47% (8/17) of left footed shots (x2=0.114; df=1; P=0.735).
