ABSTRACT
There is a strong interaction between a wave and a wave damping structure like a breakwater. This interaction is visible in front of the structure (reflection), on the slope of the structure (run-up) and behind the structure (overtopping and transmission). This chapter summarizes these interactions. It is not necessary to learn all the formulae by heart, but one should be aware of the order of magnitude of the effects.
