ABSTRACT

In this chapter we take up many of the issues covered in earlier chapters and apply them to highly qualified women. We focus on the traditional professions of law, medicine and the natural sciences, and in a separate section we examine the position of women in management. In our concluding section, we touch on some ‘new professions’. The development of the professions is unique to different countries and in this chapter we largely focus on the UK, although we make reference to US literature where appropriate.
