ABSTRACT

The major themes in women’s employment that this book has addressed are relevant to one extent or another to all industrialized countries. Certainly women’s increased employment participation coupled with continuing gender inequalities are global phenomena. This concluding chapter concentrates largely on the UK and summarizes the main areas of change and continuity in women’s employment. In the final section we turn our attention to a consideration of the current and future policy directions by examining the efforts being made by the social partners – the state, trade unions and employers – to make progress on women’s employment equality in the UK.
