ABSTRACT
Seoul has been the capital of Korea for over 600 years since the Joseon Dynasty (the former name of Korea) was founded in 1392. The population of Seoul amounted to 10,280,523 with 25 districts (so-called ‘gu’) at the end of 2002. It has played a pivotal role as the key metropolitan centre of Korea, driving economic, social and cultural development.
