ABSTRACT
This is called deletion and it forms the basis of much sentence gen eration in Chomskyan theory. Now, one may assume that the 'Royal Theme' in Bach's Musical Offering (Figure 5.2d) is derived by a process of deletion from three other figures (Figure 5.2 a-c).
