ABSTRACT

Michael Zimmerman: What kind of high school was the one in Denver where those two guys killed all those students?

Benedikt: Like the ones I was talking about. It was, I think, for 2,000 people: a windowless, hose-down kind of place. Most American high schools since 1965 in the suburbs are like that. We have a lot of students who came not that long ago from [them]. Does this ring a bell with the students here of the high school they went to? [Affirmative answers from audience members] What made you become architects, man? Was it, like, anger?
