ABSTRACT

This chapter analyses the questionnaire for migrants (see the Appendix, questionnaire A4). As described in Chapter 3, the two-ended approach was carried out by interviewing 105 migrants from the four villages. Focusing on the current situation for migrants and the social and economic effects, the analysis includes the demographic and social characteristics of migrants, migration channels, relationships between migrants and their sending areas, how migrants find jobs and adjust themselves to an urban environment, their income and working conditions, and their general view of city and village life. Comparison is also made between the region studied and the general situation in China.
