ABSTRACT

This chapter is designed to help you to develop your research skills in one of the most sensitive and debated areas of education: the inclusion of pupils with special educational needs (SEN) in mainstream schools. It introduces case study research using examples drawn from examples written by third year undergraduate students in the module, ‘Inclusivity and SEN’. The first part of the chapter includes some tasks to help with the early decisions that need to be made in writing a case study. The second part moves to using examples from other studies to illustrate the process of analysing data and structuring a report. Links are made to further reading for more detailed insights into methodology. The examples of case studies are anonymous as they are often in sensitive contexts.
