ABSTRACT

In this chapter we bring together some of the threads expressed throughout the rest of the book. We examine why there is renewed interest in learning science outside the classroom and go on to discuss the implications of this for learning. We explore how such teaching can be unsettling for some teachers but can bring rich dividends to many pupils, including those not always best served by conventional classroom teaching. We close by examining the implications of learning science outside the classroom for scientific literacy and lifelong learning.
