ABSTRACT
Using redundant words, or ‘tautology’, is a serious crime for broadcast journalists, who are allotted just a few seconds to get their stories across. Every word uses up precious time. The need for clarity, as well as brevity, requires a ruthless approach. Redundant words must go.
