ROBERT BECKFORD: Lez, I am interested in connections between the dancehall and the church hall. I have discovered that from the location of the church there was always a ‘secret’ borrowing of dancehall styles – the music, dress and even language at times. Was there a similar process at work in dancehall – borrowing from the church?
