ABSTRACT

HRD can be seen to derive much of its theoretical basis from OD (e.g. Iles and Yolles, 2002; Swanson, 1999; McLean, 1999), and indeed Grieves and Redman (1999, p. 82) contend that HRD is ‘ living in the shadow of OD’. We contend that any analysis of the response of HRD to complexity involves an analysis of the theoretical roots of OD, especially in systems theory (e.g. Iles and Yolles, 2002).
