ABSTRACT

This new philosophical position also has startling consequences for

our conceptions of language, intelligence, meaning, the emotions and

subjectivity, as these are adjusted to become independent of the shape

shifting sensory lode. The pedagogical impact of these transformations

becomes evident in the design process studios. A defining moment for

many students, this is where preconceptions are undermined, assumptions

redefined and new habits acquired. Demonstrating that philosophy really

isn’t as pure or remote from practice as some philosophers would like to

think, it is this series of fundamental reappraisals that taken as a whole,

could be used to question the curricula and strategies adopted to deal

with the very earliest stages of general education as well as in many

other fields of study.
