ABSTRACT

In Denmark pupils leave basic (compulsory) schooling at the age of 15-16 years. At that point their school careers have lasted 9 or 10 years. They may proceed to upper secondary school (33% did so in 1992). They may choose among a wide range of vocational training programmes. Or they may go elsewhere. The subjects taught in primary and lower secondary school — the Folkeskole as we call it — are shown in Figure 6.1. The diagram shows the distribution of subjects, which is a mixture of compulsory and non-compulsory subjects.
