ABSTRACT

Most of the housemates’ spare time is spent in this room, and its décor reflects their efforts to create a homely atmosphere: a pair of curtains have been tie-dyed by Matty to match the newish blue carpet; the walls painted orange by Jane’s boyfriend; the lightshade spray-painted purple and blue. In the corner, housing one of three TVs in the room in varying states of (dis)repair, we spy an oversized hostess trolley, and learn that it is appreciated rather more for its retro qualities than its questionable aesthetic appeal, but it nonetheless remains covered with a throw. It cost Matty and Lou fifty pence from the dump, ‘a real bargain’. Likewise the VCR: a tenner between the six of them.
