ABSTRACT
Alberta MARTIN MORROW The year 2001 marked the end of an era for Edmonton’s Citadel Theatre –
one of the country’s most ambitious regional companies – with the death
of its founder, the dynamic lawyer turned theatre builder, Joseph Shoctor. Few
major theatres in Canada owe their existence and character so much to one
individual, and Shoctor’s vision had shaped the Citadel since its humble origins
in 1965 in a former Salvation Army headquarters.
