ABSTRACT
However, geographical distances have been overcome and linguistic barriers
partially scaled down with the holding since 1999 in New Delhi of a festival
of the best Indian plays, under the aegis of the National School of Drama,
the premier institute of theatre training which over the past 45 years has sig-
nificantly imparted a professional quality to the largely amateur theatre, through
a cadre of approximately 800 actors, directors and designers trained by it.
