ABSTRACT

Many theatre groups are arriving on the scene, in response to young peo-

ple’s need to express themselves. As a result, the entertainment theatre has given

way to another kind of theatrical expression, a much more committed one,

which takes up themes like war, famine, democracy and AIDS with a deep

desire to draw the audience’s attention to these subjects. In spite of heavy

financial problems Togo’s theatre can expect good times ahead of it, and brave

private initiatives are helping to make this hope concrete.
