ABSTRACT
Belarus, our 28 theatres are still putting on plays. During the seasons 1999/
2000, 2000/2001 and 2001/2002, there were more than 160 productions,
varied in genre, theme and directing style. Theatres in Belarus are full: for some
new productions, it is difficult to find a seat. Talking and writing about theatre
is in fashion. For the first time, television and radio have started to publicise
plays. Of course the capital of the Republic is the most active centre of artistic
life. There are 14 theatres in Minsk, half of the country’s total.
